Where There Be Dragons Southwestern U.S. Course- Junior year (Spring semester)

A group of twelve students met at El Paso airport, and began a research based adventure, camping around the Southwest and moving around via one big van and trailer. Our course and location allowed us to deeply begin studying indigenous sovereignty, permaculture, and immigration policy along the southern border. We paddled the Rio, explored museums, worked on farms and for nonprofits, studied common migrant routes through the desert, and interviewed locals and leaders along the way.

The Outdoor Academy – Junior year (Fall semester)

I attended a semester school of 30 students located in the mountains of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina the first half of my junior year instead of online or “zoom” school at home. The Outdoor Academy  focuses on community building, craftsmanship, and experiential education within the surrounding forest. I got seven credits while I was there that all fortunately transferred well on to my DSA transcript, allowing me to take a semester off and do a Where There Be Dragons course (as follows).

Durham School of the Arts (DSA) – Freshman, Sophomore, and Senior year

DSA is a public magnet arts school in downtown Durham, NC. My arts pathway was dance in which we practiced every day for approximately two hours and performed a live concert every semester. I lived less than a five minute walk from my first period classroom, and played on the varsity soccer team my freshman and sophomore years until I tore my ACL and the pandemic hit in.
